A contracted installer of retail store interiors started a massive interior overhaul of several department stores throughout the country and sought Steel Forming Systems’ expertise in filling what looked to be a tall order. SFS was asked to supply the perimeter wall systems for all the stores. This was great news for all parties involved. There was, however, one catch. Our customer did not know when each store would need the components. The only known fact on timing was that the interiors had to be completed quickly. Any delay would cost the department stores sales revenue on a daily basis.
There was only one solution. With a commitment to purchase the products in place, SFS started producing the components right away. SFS inventoried all the items in our large warehousing space. When the installers were ready, the parts could be shipped at a moment’s notice, even for next-day delivery if necessary. The parts arrived right when the installers needed them; not too early, which would have taken man-hours and space to warehouse, and not too late, which would have delayed the projects.
SFS has adopted this and other processes for many of our customers. We have turned many of our production items into stock items, allowing for faster delivery and greater flexibility. For jobs that require a purchase order, we maintain a comfortable level of steel in stock to maintain efficient delivery times.
